Fatal Victorville hit-and-run crash death of Isaac Ismael Cortez
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the man killed when struck by an unknown vehicle on I-15 near Victorville. The deceased is identified as 39-year-old Isaac Ismael Cortez, who resided in Whittier.
Victorville authorities reported the fatal collision occurred at around 1:48 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2025, located just south of Nisqualli Road in the northbound lanes of the freeway. Initial reports indicated the pedestrian was walking within the traffic stream when the incident happened.
California Highway Patrol officers assigned to the Victorville Area described the scene, stating Cortez was ambushed by an unseen motorist traveling at an unknown velocity. The operator of the suspect automobile immediately departed the scene traveling north on I-15 without halting.
Emergency response teams from the CHP and the San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived promptly at the crash site. Medical examiners pronounced Cortez deceased at the location where the hit-and-run took place.
No additional information regarding the fleeing driver or the involved automobile has been released by law enforcement. CHP officials mentioned potential indicators of the suspect vehicle, including possible damage to the right front section and perhaps a front bumper component, which might have lessened the outward appearance of the collision.
No law enforcement actions have been initiated in connection with this ongoing investigation.
