WAGENER, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Aiken County Coroner’s Office confirmed yesterday’s identification of the person killed when two cars drove into Lake Neeses.

A nineteen-year-old male, Jacob Langley, was declared dead at the scene around 1:40 p.m. He will undergo an autopsy next week in Newberry, the Coroner’s Office announced.

Officials state Langley was driving a 1991 GMC Sonoma. The other person involved, who suffered minor injuries, was driving a 2013 Chevy Silverado.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office were dispatched after the incident occurred Saturday afternoon.

According to the Coroner’s Office, emergency services were called at 1:03 p.m. on Wagener Road and Flowing Wells Road. The Sonoma and Silverado were heading east on Wagener Road when the Silverado hit the Sonoma as it tried to turn left onto Flowing Wells Road. This caused both cars to end up in the pond.

Highway workers cleared the blocked lanes by approximately 4:30 p.m., and the area was substantially cleared before 5 p.m.

Emergency responders included a dive team and Couchton Fire Rescue personnel.

Highway Patrol and the Department of Natural Resources were informed by deputies.

The Coroner’s Office and Highway Patrol are continuing their investigation into the incident.
