Fatal Charlotte car crash death of James Leon Hall

Charlotte-Mecklenburg law enforcement officials confirmed the identity of the deceased individual and apprehended a suspect linked to a deadly hit-and-run that took place on Wednesday evening.

Emergency medical services dispatched to the area near the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road around 8:30 p.m. discovered the 58-year-old James Leon Hall lying injured and critically in the road.

Mr. Hall was taken to a nearby medical facility but unfortunately succumbed to his severe injuries.

Witness accounts relayed to investigators indicated that Hall had been hit by a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle which subsequently departed the scene heading south. Further examination revealed that Hall was crossing the street at an unmarked crossing, and he was struck by the vehicle at an elevated speed.

Investigators located the involved sport utility vehicle on Hildebrand Street approximately ten minutes after the incident, around 10:45 p.m. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Luis Alberto Miranda Vilchis, was stopped and taken into custody.

Mr. Vilchis faces multiple serious charges, including vehicular homicide as a felony, hit-and-run as a felony, driving without a valid license, and possessing improperly registered vehicle documentation.
