EVER ELI DAMIAN MAZAT DIES IN FATAL FLANDERS CAR CRASH

Fatal Flanders car crash death of Ever Eli Damian Mazat

Police are examining three significant motor vehicle accidents across Suffolk County that took place on Sunday. According to authorities, a Shirley resident has been charged with driving away from the scene of an incident after allegedly causing the death of a man in Riverside. These developments form part of three serious traffic incidents occurring late Sunday evening.

Following a patrol conducted at approximately 7:23 p.m., a law enforcement officer found an unconscious individual lying in the westbound lane near the intersection of Flanders Road and Vail Avenue. After a preliminary investigation, officials identified the man as Ever Eli Damian Mazat, who was 46 years old and lived in Flanders. It was determined that Mr. Mazat had been hit by a vehicle that then departed the accident location.

Emergency medical services from Flanders Northampton responded promptly but could not revive Mr. Mazat, who later succumbed to his injuries. Law enforcement subsequently identified and apprehended the vehicle operator involved, Silvia Alvarez De Reyes, a 46-year-old from Shirley. She faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality, which constitutes a felony offense.

This particular incident was one of three severe crashes reported across Suffolk County on Sunday evening. At 5:35 p.m. in St. James, a driver of a 2005 Toyota Camry suffered critical injuries after exiting a driveway and being struck by a 2002 Jeep Cherokee. Meanwhile, several hours later around 11:05 p.m. in Shirley, a pedestrian crossing William Floyd Parkway near Montauk Highway received critical injuries when hit by a 2017 Nissan SUV.

The incident involving Ever Eli Damian Mazat resulted in the closure of Flanders Road, which has since been reopened in all directions. The involved vehicle was taken into custody for mandatory safety inspections. All drivers in the three separate accidents were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation.

Authorities noted that this occurrence represents one of many traffic incidents across Long Island. A separate investigative report highlighted that traffic crashes on Long Island have an alarming frequency, with fatal collisions occurring on average every seven minutes. Data from a specific investigation indicated that traffic incidents between 2014 and 2023 led to over 2,100 fatalities and more than 16,000 serious injuries.
