Fatal Albany car crash death of Matthew Mardon
Police officially identified the individual who lost their life on Tuesday when a car accident occurred on Everett Road near the Interstate 90 exit.
The deceased was Matthew Mardon, a 34-year-old resident of Wynantskill.
Emergency responders located Mardon inside his car just before 6 p.m. He received immediate care at the scene before being transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he did not survive the injuries later that evening.
According to law enforcement, Mardon was attempting to merge onto Everett Road from the highway exit when Merriman’s vehicle, traveling north on Everett Road, collided with his car. Merriman, identified as Matthew Merriman, is a 29-year-old from Rotterdam.
Police indicated Merriman exhibited signs of intoxication following the collision and has been formally charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and reckless criminal mischief. He additionally faces multiple traffic infractions.
Merriman appeared in city court for an initial appearance and was held at the Albany County jail as of Thursday morning.
