Fatal Lubbock car crash death of Daniel Spray
Lubbock authorities confirmed on Tuesday that a 57-year-old man, Daniel Spray, had passed away following a collision involving two vehicles Monday morning in central Lubbock.
According to information released by the Lubbock police department, officers were dispatched to a location at approximately 7:45 a.m. Monday in the 2400 block of Indiana Avenue due to a reported crash involving injuries.
Upon their arrival, the officers found Daniel Spray inside a passenger vehicle. Medical examiners pronounced him deceased at the scene.
A 16-year-old teenager driving a pickup truck and a 13-year-old passenger in that vehicle sustained minor injuries. Emergency medical services transported both juveniles to University Medical Center for treatment.
Initial findings from the ongoing investigation suggest the teenager was traveling south on Indiana Avenue in the early morning hours. Spray was reportedly traveling north on the same street and attempted a left turn onto the 3400 block of 24th Street at the time of the collision.
The pickup truck departed the main roadway, subsequently striking a utility pole and a nearby residence in the 3400 block of 24th Street. This impact caused a significant power outage, leaving more than 2,000 residents without electricity for a substantial portion of the day.
Further examination of the crash’s contributing factors is currently underway by the investigating team as they continue to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision.
