Fatal Swan Valley car crash death of Ricardo Salazar-Osorio

Idaho Falls resident Ricardo Salazar-Osorio, 30, has been identified as the man killed following a collision involving a cow on the road. The Bonneville County Coroner, Shante Sanchez, confirmed the identity of the deceased.

Idaho State Police reported the incident occurred Monday morning at 6:55 a.m. on US Highway 26 near mile marker 365 in Swan Valley. Salazar-Osorio was operating his 2010 Volkswagen CC and traveling east when he collided with the animal. The impact disabled his vehicle on the travel lane.

Visibility was severely reduced due to fog and darkness in the area at the time of the accident. A 19-year-old man from Idaho Falls, driving a 2019 Ram 2500 pickup truck eastbound, subsequently struck the disabled Volkswagen. Salazar-Osorio did not survive the initial impact and died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

Both individuals involved in the accident were reported to be wearing seatbelts.
