Fatal Grand Forks car crash death of Scott Wahlstrand
Law enforcement officials have confirmed the identity of the man killed Saturday night near Grand Forks after his vehicle was struck by a train. The incident occurred late into the evening.
According to information provided by the highway patrol, around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Scott Wahlstrand, who was 76 years old and a resident of Grand Forks, was driving his Chevrolet Equinox. At the time of the incident, he was heading south on railroad tracks located northwest of the intersection of 16th Street Northeast and 17th Avenue Northeast.
Mr. Wahlstrand sustained fatal injuries when his vehicle collided with a train traveling eastbound. Following the collision, his car was reportedly dragged a distance of about 60 feet along the tracks before stopping.
Initial reports indicate that Mr. Wahlstrand experienced a sudden medical event prior to the accident occurring.
