Fatal Phoenix shooting death of Jeremy Preckel
Phoenix law enforcement agencies are confirming the identity of the individual killed during a Wednesday afternoon police encounter. The Glendale Police Department, currently assigned the responsibility for investigating this lethal shooting incident, has officially identified the deceased as forty-four-year-old Jeremy Preckel.
Official sources reported that Preckel’s family members have been formally notified about his passing.
Details surrounding the shooting incident involving El Mirage police officers have been pieced together. The El Mirage Police Department reported that the shooting took place around five thirty-eight in the afternoon near one hundred and fifteenth avenue and a road designated as Columbine Drive on Wednesday.
According to reports provided by the Glendale Police Department, Preckel contacted emergency services via 911, expressing concerns about his mental state and claiming he was experiencing suicidal ideation. He gave emergency responders the address where he was located.
Upon the arrival of the responding officers at the specified location, it is alleged that Preckel began walking towards the officers while reportedly holding a long rifle. This specific action, according to the information gathered, led to the officers present opening fire on Preckel.
Emergency medical personnel attended the scene and pronounced Preckel deceased. Fortunately, none of the responding officers sustained any injuries during this unfortunate event.
This particular incident marks the second fatality involving police officers in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area during the current Wednesday. A separate fatal shooting incident occurred only a few hours earlier in the southeast portion of the Valley, involving the Queen Creek Police Department.
