The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that authorities have identified the cyclist who was killed when their bicycle collided with a dump truck. The serious accident occurred at a crossing point along the High Trestle Trail, situated near Crocker.
Officials report the incident took place on Thursday, October 9. The 44-year-old person from Ankeny who was operating the bicycle was using a recumbent model at the time of the collision. The driver of the dump truck, who was 53 years old and also from Des Moines, remained at the scene and was working with law enforcement.
Investigators indicate that the case remains under review.
