Fatal Miami shooting death of Dwight C. Wells
Miami police are investigating the death of a well-known community activist who was killed when he was playing dominoes outside his restaurant. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Dwight C. Wells, was the founder of the organization “Bikes Up, Guns Down.” He was shot and killed Friday evening in front of the “Winning And Won Turkey Legs” restaurant located in Liberty City.
According to police reports provided to CBS News Miami, emergency dispatchers were notified around 9:20 p.m. regarding a shooting incident at the location on NW 17th Avenue. Responding officers found a man, later confirmed to be Wells, suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Medical personnel rushed the injured activist to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police indicate that Wells was engaged in a game of dominoes with two other individuals when an unknown suspect approached him, fired a shot, and then quickly departed the scene without being identified.
