Fatal Bixler Avenue shooting death of Amya Finney

An indictment was issued tonight against Amare Ramey, who is 20 years old, charging him with two instances of criminal homicide. This follows the tragic event of Sunday morning where his 17-year-old pregnant partner, Amya Finney, died as a result of being shot inside a residence on Bixler Avenue.

According to Finney’s mother, her daughter had been 17 at the time and was reported to have called her earlier that day. The mother recalled that Amya was picked up from Ramey’s home by her mother because she expressed concern over an argument the couple were having just before the call concluded.

Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call that was hung up; this prompted law enforcement to respond to the scene. Inside a bedroom at the Bixler Avenue property, Finney’s body was found with a serious injury caused by a gunshot to the abdomen. She was taken to Skyline Medical Center, but unfortunately, her injuries proved fatal.

This afternoon, Ramey went to the North Precinct and turned himself in for questioning.

In an official interview with detectives from the Homicide Unit, Ramey confessed to being at the location where the shooting happened and acknowledged that he was the one who triggered the weapon. He also informed the investigators that Finney was expecting a child, approximately two months along, which was his child. The authorities noted that there were no recorded incidents of domestic disputes or violence in their documented history.

Ramey, who is now 20, was arrested back in March 2024 on multiple counts, which included offenses like aggravated assault, carjacking, and aggravated burglary. Following this arrest, he was given a sentence of four years of supervised probation in June.

The incident resulted in the death of Amya Finney, who was 17.
