The incident unfolded on a downtown freeway link, specifically on the ramp connecting southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound State Route 94.
The crash took place shortly before 11 p.m. on October 6, when Ray’s sedan, which she was driving, unexpectedly left the roadway. The vehicle veered off the path and collided with a tree. The cause of the driver’s loss of control remains unknown at this time. Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported Ray to Scripps Mercy Hospital in the Hillcrest area. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away two days later, as confirmed by the agency.
