Kenyatta Henry dies in fatal Steelton shooting
Fatal Steelton shooting death of Kenyatta Henry
Law enforcement confirmed Monday that the suspect involved in the fatal shooting in Steelton has been taken into custody. Identified as Quadrir Rameau, the 23-year-old surrendered to police in the Allentown region earlier in the week.
According to information released by the Steelton Police Department, Rameau, 23, is accused of fatally shooting 26-year-old Kenyatta Henry during the incident last week. Henry’s sibling, Nakeem T. McGraw, sustained a minor gunshot wound during the attack, and law enforcement reports indicate that Rameau was identified by McGraw as the person responsible, despite their prior acquaintance.
The shooting incident began when authorities located Henry outside a corner store on the main block of South 4th Street around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7. McGraw was found nearby with a non-critical injury and was transported to a local medical facility for care.
Investigators collected several expended 9mm shell casings from the vicinity of the store as part of their probe.
As a safety precaution, the nearby Steelton-Highspire School District buildings were placed under a lockdown while officers conducted their investigation.
Rameau’s mother reportedly informed law enforcement that he sent her a text message after the shooting, claiming he had “encountered some trouble” and urging her to secure her home. Following this communication, police proceeded to examine the suspect’s residence.
During the search of Rameau’s home, investigators discovered ammunition for a 9mm handgun in his bedroom, as detailed in official reports.
The probe also incorporated footage from surveillance cameras at the store, which was instrumental in confirming Rameau’s identity as the shooter.
Rameau has been formally charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, illegal firearm possession, and being prohibited from possessing a firearm, as per police statements.
After turning himself in to local law enforcement, Rameau was transferred back to Dauphin County by members of the county’s Criminal Investigation Division.
The Steelton Police Department expressed gratitude towards the Criminal Investigation Division and all citizens who provided tips that led to the suspect’s apprehension.
