Fatal Spanaway shooting death of Thomas Hayes and Dawn Jones
Thomas Hayes, aged 57, passed away after suffering a lethal gunshot wound to his midsection in the early evening hours of October 9. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his demise was the result of a homicide. Dawn Jones, also 54, was pronounced dead at the scene due to a headshot wound, with authorities determining it was a deliberate act of suicide. Both individuals were residents of Spanaway.
According to official statements, law enforcement responded to a residence at 7th Avenue Court East shortly after 10 p.m. following initial reports of a shooting. By the time officers arrived, several bystanders had notified authorities, citing audible gunfire and unoccupied doors. Pierce County Sheriff’s Office records indicate that deputies breached the property to find the deceased. A teenage survivor, 14 years old, was located concealed inside a bedroom closet and was subsequently entrusted to her relatives.
The incident concluded without additional suspects, as investigators concluded the events were confined to the premises.
