Fatal Bensalem Township fire death of Allan Schoppy, 77
Emergency services, including fire and police personnel, were dispatched to Gilbert Drive on Tuesday afternoon in response to a reported structure fire alarm, as announced by the Bensalem Township Fire Rescue department.
Upon their arrival, emergency responders observed there was no active fire or discernible smoke present, but investigators noted the presence of dark soot on the interior surfaces of several windows.
Officials reported that firefighters entered the dwelling through the main entrance and discovered the elderly resident, Allan Schoppy, deceased in a seated position within the living room. Additionally, both a canine and feline companion were found deceased inside the residence.
Further examination by fire experts concluded that the blaze had extinguished itself before the emergency teams’ arrival and likely started during the night hours.
At this time, the official cause of the fire has not been definitively determined and is considered an ongoing investigation, though authorities stated it does not appear to have been deliberately started.
