According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the fatal shooting transpired around 5:49 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15th, in the 9700 block of Platt Drive. Authorities discovered Tolliver, who was 29 years old, suffering from a gunshot wound, and confirmed his death at the scene.

Preliminary investigation by detectives indicates the fatal shooting originated from a disagreement between a customer and an employee inside a barbershop. Sylvester Bouligny III is the suspect identified by investigators. The reports suggest Bouligny departed the establishment and returned accompanied by two other individuals. These men confronted the employee, with Bouligny being accused of initiating the altercation. A physical confrontation then ensued, and during this struggle, the two other individuals are alleged to have fired their weapons, resulting in the death of Marvin Tolliver, who was reportedly not participating in the initial conflict.

Sylvester Bouligny III was apprehended on Thursday, October 16th, and officially processed into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison system. He faces serious charges, including being Principal to Second Degree Murder and possessing an illegal weapon.
