Fatal Sampson County car crash death of Walker Lambert

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol announced on Thursday that the toddler killed in the recent single-car accident in Sampson County has been identified. Officials stated the identification process was completed earlier in the week.

According to troopers, the fatal collision involving the 2004 Ford Expedition took place around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The patrol described the vehicle’s path as it traveled northbound on Autry Mill Road, approaching US-13. It left the road’s right side, the driver overcorrected, veered sharply left, entered a ditch, struck a tree, and flipped multiple times before coming to rest.

This devastating accident resulted in three young occupants being thrown from the vehicle. NCSHP officials confirmed that the three juveniles, whose ages were reported as 3, 5, and 13, were ejected during the violent impact. A significant detail noted by authorities was that none of these three passengers were secured with seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The fatal outcome was confirmed for the 3-year-old boy, with troopers revealing his identity as Walker Lambert. On Thursday, the Highway Patrol officially identified him as the victim.

Emergency services transported one of the injured juveniles directly to WakeMed for treatment. Another child was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center following initial care. The driver, identified as a 33-year-old woman from Autryville, received medical attention at WakeMed General Hospital. Authorities highlighted that she was the only person inside the vehicle who had been wearing a seatbelt during the incident.

NCSHP stated that the three juvenile passengers were confirmed to be the offspring of the driver. Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, believing excessive speed may have played a part. The possibility of impairment remains under review. The case is currently active and being examined by the highway patrol.
