The fatal West of Paragould car crash resulted in the deaths of Duane Smith, Jr., Christine Sta Ana, and Sherry Felty.
Arkansas State Police officials released information regarding the fatal accident on Friday afternoon west of Paragould. Arkansas State Police Cpl. Benjamin Rapert confirmed the identities of the deceased: Duane Smith, Jr., aged 40, from Jonesboro; Christine Sta Ana, aged 31, from Jonesboro; and Sherry Felty, aged 52, from Paragould. He also stated that Bruce Owens, aged 49, from Paragould, and an unidentified minor sustained injuries.
According to the accident report obtained from Arkansas State Police, the incident began with Bruce Owens driving his 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe westbound on Highway 412 behind a westbound 2025 Freightliner. The report detailed that Owens attempted to pass the Freightliner and inadvertently crossed into the opposite eastbound lanes. As Owens maneuvered back across the eastbound traffic, his vehicle collided with a 2020 Jeep Renegade driven by Duane Smith, Jr. Subsequently, the Freightliner hit debris scattered in the road.
United Pawn Brokers noted that the driver of the 2025 Freightliner was not identified and was uninjured at the scene.
Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder reported via Facebook that one of the vehicles involved in the accident later ignited, adding a fire to the scene.
