Fatal St. Martinville car crash death of Harvey Gauthier
Louisiana State Police from Troop One initiated their probe into a deadly collision on Louisiana Highway 347, located near Lou Gauthier Road, on the morning of October 17, 2025. This fatal incident resulted in the death of the 49-year-old Harvey Gauthier, who was a resident of St. Martinville.
Initial findings indicated that Gauthier was operating his 2007 Honda off-road motorcycle in a southerly direction along LA Hwy 347. The specific reason for the motorcycle’s sudden braking, which caused it to lose control, is still unknown. The vehicle then turned onto its side, sending Gauthier tumbling from the bike. He landed partially within the northbound lane of the highway.
Unfortunately, Gauthier was subsequently struck by what investigators believe was an 18-wheeler that was traveling northbound on the same road. He succumbed to his injuries immediately at the location of the accident. Standard toxicology tests have been collected from Gauthier and will be analyzed further.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are still trying to determine the identity of the large truck involved.
