Kimberly Taylor Cox dies in fatal Iredell County car crash
Fatal Iredell County car crash death of Kimberly Taylor Cox
A devastating traffic collision involving two motor vehicles Thursday evening in Iredell County resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman from South Carolina and the loss of three dogs, reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol indicate.
The individual who passed away has been identified as Kimberly Taylor Cox, originally from York. According to official sources, the accident transpired approximately at 8:30 p.m. on Interstate 77 South, close to mile marker 49. Initial findings from the investigation suggest that a large truck, specifically a 2017 model Freightliner tractor-trailer, was moving too slowly in the right lane. This vehicle collided forcefully with a 2012 GMC Denali sport utility vehicle that had stopped due to traffic congestion in the same lane. The impact was severe enough to ignite fires in both vehicles.
Cox, who was a passenger inside the GMC Denali, was transported promptly to a regional hospital. Regrettably, she succumbed to her injuries despite medical intervention. Tragically, three dogs that were also inside the SUV did not survive the incident. The driver of the SUV received injuries that, while serious, were not immediately life-threatening and required hospital treatment.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the causes of this fatal crash is currently underway.
