A pedestrian met his demise when struck by a passing motor vehicle on Saturday morning in Huntington. Reports indicate that Richard Lucian was crossing Main Street when he was hit by a 2022 Ford sedan traveling westbound. This westbound Ford was rounding a bend near Stewart Avenue when the collision occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m.
The 85-year-old Richard Lucian, who resided in Cold Spring Harbor, was transported to nearby Huntington Hospital following the incident. He arrived via emergency ambulance services from the Huntington Community First Aid organization. Upon arrival at the hospital, medical personnel confirmed that Mr. Lucian had passed away.
The driver of the Ford sedan involved in the incident was identified as Leonard Bilski, aged 60, also from Saint James. Fortunately, he suffered no injuries during the collision. Law enforcement officials reported that the vehicle was subsequently taken into custody for a mandatory safety inspection.
Eyewitnesses who arrived at the scene described a harrowing sight. One individual reported seeing the driver of the Ford appear deeply distressed after the collision. Furthermore, photographs taken of the accident scene allegedly showed the pedestrian being thrown into the air upon impact, landing injured on the north side of Main Street in front of the Classic Galleries store.
Other individuals present at the location also commented on the challenging visibility conditions for crossing Main Street near Stewart Avenue. Prior to the arrival of police officers, concerned bystanders, referred to as Good Samaritans, provided immediate assistance to the injured pedestrian, checking on his well-being until professional help arrived.
