Fatal Milwaukee shooting death of William Brooks

The family is seeking explanations following the fatal shooting of a young man on Thursday evening.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. close to North 39th Street and West Capitol Drive. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the victim was 21-year-old William Brooks, who was often called “Will” by his loved ones.

His mother, Shirley Ragland, described him as a joyful, kind, and attentive individual. She added that he had a knack for connecting with others, always eager to engage in conversation and share laughter.

William had seven siblings in his family. He was involved in basketball during his youth and expressed his artistic side through his interests in fashion and automobiles.

His brother, Joshua Brooks, shared that William was protective and supportive, acting as a father figure at times.

Ragland expressed profound grief, stating that her son was shot outside a car repair shop on Capitol. She immediately went to the scene, describing the event as a tragic coincidence of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite knowing the truth, she finds it hard to accept.

The Milwaukee Police Department is actively investigating and looking for an unknown suspect.
