LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A deadly shooting at a Fern Creek apartment complex resulted in one man’s death, leading to charges against his two brothers.

The 37-year-old Darrel R. Burnett faces a murder charge, while his 36-year-old sister, Kiaira Paige, has been charged with assault.

Officials identified the deceased as 30-year-old Darryl E. Burnett Jr.

Louisville Metro Police confirmed that the deceased were brothers.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Sunday in the 100 block of Brentlinger Park Drive. Police discovered Burnett Jr., who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and the right leg.

He was transported to UofL Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

While in police custody, Paige provided a statement to investigators, admitting to an altercation with Burnett Jr. before shooting him in the leg.

According to LMPD, surveillance footage from the area supports Paige’s account and shows another individual, identified as Darrel, leaving the residence with a rifle and firing the fatal head shot.

Both suspects are currently being held at Metro Corrections, awaiting their initial court appearance.

The Homicide Unit confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
