Indianapolis authorities reported a fatal shooting incident occurred on the northeast side of the city late on a Sunday afternoon. Initial reports indicated police were dispatched shortly after 1:45 p.m. to the 4200 block of Ponza Court, a location close to the intersection of 42nd Street and Post Road. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a man inside a house who had suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services personnel arrived subsequently and provided medical attention until the victim’s passing was confirmed. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department later confirmed that this individual, identified as 21-year-old Kavon McClung, was pronounced dead upon their arrival. The county coroner’s office subsequently determined the death was the result of a homicide.
IMPD officials announced that they had identified a person of interest in connection with the shooting. While details regarding the individual’s potential involvement were pending, initial reports stated the suspect was a male. Further investigation led authorities to charge an adult male with preliminary murder accusations after discussions with the county prosecutor’s office.
Detectives are actively seeking information from anyone who might have observed the incident in the vicinity. Officials stated they believe they have identified all individuals connected to the shooting, suggesting no immediate threat to the surrounding community exists. Police indicated that disturbances potentially occurred inside the residence prior to the fatal shooting, and investigations are ongoing regarding the number of people present at the time.
IMPD has requested a search warrant for the residence where Kavon McClung was found deceased. The Marion County Coroner’s Office and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency are providing support to the ongoing investigation.
