Hawaii Island law enforcement have named the individual who lost their life after being struck during a traffic incident in the Honokaʻa area.

On the evening of Sunday, October 19th, 2025, at approximately 7:33 p.m., police responded to reports concerning a traffic-related hazard. Initial reports indicated an individual dressed in dark attire was walking along the road, positioned near the 47-mile mark on Highway 19, moving towards the Honokaʻa region. Before the officers arrived, they observed a vehicle traveling south on Highway 19 that veered sharply into their path. This car subsequently collided with Ivan Primo, who was standing beside the roadway. The involved vehicle displayed significant damage to its front passenger side. Following this impact, responders discovered a man wearing dark clothing lying on the road surface.

Emergency medical personnel from the Hawaii Fire Department commenced life-saving procedures upon their arrival. These efforts continued until law enforcement officials pronounced Ivan Primo deceased at 7:51 p.m. local time. It is noted that Mr. Primo was not within a designated crosswalk area at the time of the incident.

The responsible agency has initiated an autopsy examination to precisely determine the circumstances leading to the death.
