Hawaiʻi Island law enforcement officials have confirmed the identity of the male individual who passed away after being involved in a traffic incident in the Honokaʻa region on Sunday, October 19th, 2025. The deceased is identified as Ivan Primo, a 48-year-old local resident from Waimea.

Around 7:33 p.m., responding officers encountered a scene where a person in dark attire was observed walking alongside the road on Highway 19, close to the 47-mile marker, heading towards Honokaʻa. Before reaching the location, the officers witnessed a vehicle traveling south on Highway 19 abruptly crossing into their path. This vehicle subsequently collided with Mr. Primo, who was standing beside the road. Damage to the front passenger area of the vehicle was noted. Following the impact, the officers discovered a man dressed in dark clothing lying injured on the roadway.

Emergency procedures began immediately with officers providing aid until the arrival of Hawaiʻi Fire Department personnel, who took over administering CPR. Mr. Primo was not within a designated crosswalk area. Medical professionals pronounced him deceased at 7:51 p.m. that same evening.

To ascertain the precise reason for his death, the authorities have formally requested an autopsy examination.
