Greenwell immediately drove to the scene to check on the situation and discovered three severely damaged automobiles. He described the damage as extensive, noting that the windshield was broken and the roof sustained significant impact with airbags activated.
As Greenwell attended to those inside one of the crashed cars, he observed a touching scene. The couple, later identified by Cape Coral law enforcement as Norma Jean Ralston and Gary Galiher, were seen holding each other. Ralston was positioned in the front passenger seat, her arm around her husband in the driver’s seat. Greenwell commented on the poignant symbolism of their final moments amidst the chaos.
