Fatal Brampton shooting death of 29-year-old Savannah Kulla

Savannah Kulla’s mother, Karen, expressed profound shock following her daughter’s death, which authorities state was caused by Anthony Deschepper in a parking lot. Karen, Savannah’s mother, confirmed her daughter was the victim, identifying her as 29 years old. Savannah was the mother of four young children, according to Karen.

Shortly after reports emerged around 2 p.m., Peel Regional Police responded to a parking lot near Airport Road and Queen Street East in Brampton. A woman was found shot, declared dead at the scene. Karen stated that her daughter had met Deschepper, who was 38 at the time, to spend time with their 17-month-old baby. This occurred despite their relationship having ended months prior.

Karen revealed Savannah had previously confided in her about fears for her safety, specifically mentioning that Anthony Deschepper had threatened her. Savannah reportedly told her mother, “If I stay with him, he’s gonna end up killing me.” Despite this warning, Karen claims her daughter dismissed her suggestion to obtain a restraining order.

Karen recounted the police visit on Tuesday where officers broke the news of her daughter’s death. “She’s the youngest of my three. I love her so much. I can’t just can’t even imagine life without her,” Karen described her grief, adding that she couldn’t recall her immediate reaction to learning of the fatal shooting.

Karen alleged that police indicated the fatal shooting stemmed from a disagreement regarding a diaper bag. According to her account, Deschepper demanded the bag, then fired three shots after her response.

Shortly after the incident, authorities issued an Amber Alert around 5 p.m. involving Deschepper and the couple’s one-year-old daughter. Police confirmed the child was later located safely with family, leading to the alert’s cancellation. Officials described the situation as an instance of intimate partner violence but provided no further details.

Niagara police subsequently issued a shelter-in-place alert due to concerns Deschepper might be in the Crystal Beach area. This alert was lifted after police located a vehicle matching the suspect’s description.

Early Wednesday, Niagara police reported finding Deschepper near a gas station. Following an encounter with officers, he was shot and killed. The province’s Special Investigations Unit began investigating the fatal shooting by Niagara police, noting investigators were examining the vehicle and a female occupant present at the time of the shooting.

Deschepper was previously wanted in 2023 for alleged firearm offenses involving a Brampton residence. Although a warrant was issued, he was arrested several weeks later and was scheduled for trial in 2026 while on bail. Karen stated Savannah had assured her multiple times that Deschepper did not possess a gun, a claim she now believes was false. She described being subjected to hundreds of daily phone calls from Deschepper, which she found deeply distressing.
