Fatal Peoria car crash death of Crystal Tena
Phoenix authorities have confirmed the identity of the woman killed Thursday when her vehicle was struck from the front on State Route 74. The Peoria Police Department announced on Friday that Crystal Tena, a resident of Goodyear, had passed away as a result of the collision.
According to the Peoria Police Department, emergency responders and fire-medical personnel were dispatched to the scene of the collision on SR74 shortly before midday Thursday. The location of the crash was between 87th Avenue and New River Road, situated just south of Lake Pleasant.
The Arizona Department of Transportation reported that State Route 74 was closed for more than five hours due to the severe collision. Tena was found deceased at the scene. The driver of the involved pickup truck received minor injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility.
Initial investigation reports indicate the Dodge Ram truck was traveling eastbound on SR74 and attempted to pass oncoming traffic by crossing into the westbound lane. This maneuver resulted in the head-on collision with Tena’s Ford Bronco.
The Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. Officials have determined that impairment was not a contributing factor in this tragic incident.
