Police in Donna and the Texas Department of Public Safety are continuing to investigate a collision involving two vehicles on the expressway that resulted in one fatality, officials reported.
The teenager involved was identified by South Texas ISD on Wednesday as Colin Feltis, a student at the South Texas ISD Science Academy. The school district announced via social media that more counselors would be available to assist students and staff during this tragic time.
The district expressed condolences, stating, “Our hearts are with all family, friends and others who have been impacted by this tragedy. This is a great loss not only for Colin’s family, but for our entire South Texas ISD community. During this difficult time, it is of utmost importance that we come together as a district family to grieve and to support one another.”
The accident occurred on Tuesday, shortly after 5:30 p.m. According to information previously shared with Channel 5 News, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado collided with the rear of a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze in the westbound lanes of the expressway between Hutto Road and Main Street in Donna.

Colin Feltis was a passenger in the Chevrolet Cruze, alongside two other people. All three individuals were taken to a nearby hospital, with the teenager not surviving.
The condition of the other two people involved in the crash has not been disclosed by authorities. Additionally, it was not specified whether the driver of the Silverado will be charged.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Texas Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday that road closures would be necessary on the expressway in Donna.
The westbound lanes of the expressway will be closed between the Main Street ramp and the Main Street exit on Thursday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to noon, TxDOT reported.
Furthermore, the three westbound lanes of the frontage road directly before the Main Street ramp will also be closed during this period. Drivers are strongly advised to plan alternative routes.
