Fatal Rancho Cucamonga shooting death of Andrew Nunez.
San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department personnel confirmed that a deputy was killed by gunfire during an investigation into a disturbance reported earlier Monday. This operation took place in Rancho Cucamonga, resulting in the loss of Andrew Nunez, who had served the department for six years. County Sheriff Shannon Dicus addressed the community during a press event, noting that Nunez’s family includes a young child and a spouse expecting a child. Dicus expressed profound grief for the incident.
Following the exchange of shots, the individual involved in the violence triggered a chase. This chase concluded with the suspect colliding on the 210 Freeway in Upland. The suspect was transported to a regional medical center, with no details on his health status released by Monday’s evening.
Emergency responders were dispatched to Hollycock in Rancho Cucamonga around noon on Monday. Upon arrival at 12:42 p.m., law enforcement encountered a situation where a person had reportedly threatened another. The suspect opened fire instantly, wounding one deputy, later identified as Nunez, who was then taken for urgent medical attention.
The accused then sped off on a motorcycle, driving at over 200 mph and maneuvering dangerously through the freeway lanes. By 1:35 p.m., the pursuit resulted in a collision with a vehicle on the 210 Freeway near Ontario and Campus Avenue. The suspect was thrown from the bike during this impact. An off-duty officer, who spontaneously began assisting, made contact with the fleeing suspect, leading to the crash. The suspect is currently in a hospital under stable circumstances.
