Fatal Santa Monica car crash death of Brad Lipshy

A motorist ran into pedestrians on the sidewalk of Wilshire Boulevard, resulting in two deaths and two injuries, the Santa Monica police reported Friday evening. The incident took place at around 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Wilshire Boulevard, where a vehicle moving against traffic collided with people near the Von’s grocery store. Two of the four individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover.

According to the Medical Examiner’s office, one of the fatalities is Brad Lipshy, who was 61 and served as the chief executive officer of a local event planning company based in Santa Monica. The identity of the second deceased has not been disclosed.

The suspect’s vehicle stayed behind, but the operator walked away before law enforcement arrived. Police described the perpetrator as a man of African descent, standing about 6 feet tall, last observed in a red headwear, a dark jacket, and black footwear.

The Major Accident Response Team from the Santa Monica Police Department is conducting the probe. Wilshire Boulevard was shut down between 14th Street and Euclid Avenue for several hours to allow for the investigation and scene management.
