Law enforcement officials have pinpointed the driver involved in the deadly hit-and-run incident that led to the death of a 22-year-old man.
Officials from the Ohio State Highway Patrol informed that the fatal collision took place during the early hours of Friday morning along State Route 125 within Jefferson Township territory.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a representative from the Rumpke organization observed a body on the road and promptly alerted emergency services by dialing 911.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that the individual was impacted by a vehicle which subsequently departed the scene. Medical professionals at the location determined that the man had passed away. This person has been confirmed as 22-year-old Caleb Holbert, hailing from Russellville.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol disclosed that components belonging to a Ford vehicle were discovered at the scene of the accident, suggesting that the suspect’s automobile might be of that particular brand.
When addressing the media on Monday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol mentioned that they had successfully identified the driver of the suspected Ford Escape involved in striking Holbert. The WLWT news affiliate has chosen not to reveal the driver’s identity, as formal charges have not yet been submitted.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol indicated that following additional investigative measures, they will submit recommendations for official charges to the Brown County Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities stated that the driver is not currently in custody because he proceeded directly to the prosecutor’s office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported being contacted on Friday by the Brown County Prosecutor’s Office, who themselves had been reached out to by a private legal representative concerning their client and the incident of the hit-and-run.
Further examination of the case by investigators revealed that the driver was heading east on State Route 125 at the time when Holbert was observed walking eastbound along the westbound side of the road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol mentioned that the Ford vehicle swerved to the left of the road’s center line and collided with Holbert. Following the impact, the driver abandoned the scene of the accident.
