Fatal Brown County hit-and-run death of Caleb Holbert.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed the identity of the individual operating the vehicle involved in the fatal collision that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man. According to information released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, this tragic incident occurred during the early morning hours of Friday on State Route 125 within Jefferson Township.

Initial reports indicate that a worker from the Rumpke waste management company discovered the body lying on the roadside and promptly reported the discovery to emergency services. The Ohio State Highway Patrol subsequently determined that the deceased was the victim of a vehicle collision and that the responsible party involved a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene. Tragically, medical personnel confirmed that Caleb Holbert, who was from the Russellville area, had passed away at the location where he was found.

Further examination of the crash site revealed components from a Ford motor vehicle. The law enforcement agency stated that the suspected vehicle might have been of this specific brand. On Monday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed they had identified the individual driving the Ford Escape that is believed to be linked to striking Holbert. However, WLWT television chose not to disclose the name of the driver because formal charges have not yet been submitted against the operator.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol mentioned that they received contact from the Brown County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, following an initial inquiry from a private attorney representing their client in connection with this hit-and-run incident. According to the patrol, the driver approached authorities without being forced to, and thus is currently not in custody.

Investigators detailed that preliminary findings suggest the suspect was traveling eastbound on State Route 125. At the time of the collision, Caleb Holbert was reportedly walking eastbound on the westbound side of the road. The patrol confirmed that the suspect’s vehicle crossed into the opposite lane, resulting in the collision with Holbert. Following the impact, the driver promptly departed the scene of the accident.
