Ellen Orcut dies in fatal San Jose car crash
Fatal San Jose car crash death of Ellen Orcut
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding a collision that occurred in a San Jose neighborhood over the weekend. A driver of a white 2018 GMC Denali attempted to overtake a 2018 Subaru Forester on Foxworthy Avenue near Jarvis Avenue on Saturday at approximately 2:35 p.m. During this maneuver, the Denali crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a blue Honda CRV. Although police have not released specific details, residents reported that the Denali was traveling at a high speed, possibly exceeding 70 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.
The woman operating the Honda CRV tragically lost her life in the accident. Identified by her family as 74-year-old Ellen Orcut, she was a dedicated employee of a non-profit organization and was heading to the bank at the time of the incident to provide financial support for her grandchildren.
Footage from the scene, captured by neighbor Israel Lomeli, vividly depicts the white GMC Denali pushing the blue Honda CRV down the street before the Denali’s front hood ignites in flames. The Honda CRV is shown later overturned in the front yard of a nearby residence. Lomeli expressed shock, stating that this was the first fatal incident in the neighborhood, though accidents had occurred there previously.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the driver of the GMC Denali hospitalized with critical but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru Forester was fortunately unharmed. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the crash to contact the San Jose Police Department.
