Fatal car crash death of Rhonda S. Long
According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, 67-year-old Rhonda S. Long from Oregon was declared deceased at Providence St. Peter Hospital on Friday, October 24th, due to injuries sustained in a one-car accident on Interstate 5 close to Lacey.
The incident transpired around 7:23 p.m. on the evening of October 24th. The state patrol initially kept the woman’s name confidential while awaiting notification of her family from the Thurston County Medical Examiner’s office. On Monday, October 27th, the patrol confirmed that the deceased was Rhonda S. Long, a resident of Springfield, Oregon.
The patrol document indicated that Long was driving a 2006 Honda CR-V and was heading toward milepost 114 when her car unexpectedly crossed the median and collided with the barrier on the opposite side. Following the initial impact, the vehicle re-entered the road, crossed all lanes, and hit the barrier on the left side before coming to a stop on the left shoulder of the interstate. The patrol also reported that Long was not wearing a seatbelt during the incident.
The Washington State Patrol cited “lane travel and over-correcting” as the cause of the accident.
