Police have determined the identity of the man killed in Tuesday’s shooting incident near downtown South Bend, confirming it was 37-year-old Brien Franklin Jr.
The fatal shooting took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Nashville Flats apartments, located in the 500 block of W. Colfax Avenue. Residents sometimes refer to this complex as the River Suites apartments.
According to official reports, authorities initially received a call about gunfire in that specific area. Shortly after, emergency dispatchers were informed that a man was injured or down in the same location.
Initial reports indicate that Brien Franklin Jr. succumbed to his injuries at the scene before medical assistance arrived.
WNDU News 16’s investigative team secured the 911 recording from the incident. Analysis suggests the emergency response from police and paramedics might have arrived later than usual, raising questions about whether a faster arrival could have altered the tragic outcome.
