Fatal Montreal car crash death of Arkadi Zitserman

A female driver, 26 years old, was formally accused on Friday afternoon with driving under the influence and operating a vehicle dangerously. These charges came after a pedestrian was killed the previous morning when he was hit by a vehicle.

The individual who was struck was 69 years old and named Arkadi Zitserman. He was involved in an incident at a street junction within the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce area on Friday morning.

Sharon Lea Sebbeg, who resides in Côte-St-Luc, faced a judge via video link at a courthouse in Montreal on Friday afternoon. This connection was from the courtroom to the police station where she was being held. The Crown opposed her release, so she will remain in custody until Tuesday, when a hearing about her potential release could occur. Her legal representative requested that the judge suggest the woman be examined at a health facility upon her transfer to a detention facility.

Court documentation indicates that Ms. Sebbeg has encountered police detention in Montreal several times since 2017. In one instance, she was part of a group case and faced charges connected to firearms; however, these were ultimately dismissed. In another situation, she was indicted on two counts of physical assault, but those charges were later withdrawn. In 2018, she was found not guilty in a case involving break-in accusations.

A representative from Montreal police stated that Mr. Zitserman was hit close to the intersection of Décarie Boulevard and Plamondon Avenue at 3:40 a.m. Emergency services located the pedestrian on the ground. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The car involved was proceeding southbound on Décarie Boulevard according to police reports. The operator of that vehicle was apprehended at the location where the incident occurred.
