Fatal Indianapolis car crash death of James Earl Palmer
Indianapolis authorities reported a fatal accident Thursday night involving a pedestrian. Law enforcement personnel arrived at the intersection of South Illinois Street and West Maryland Street shortly before 8 p.m. following a report concerning a personal injury incident.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered an adult male in the street area, clearly injured from being involved with a motor vehicle. Emergency medical services conveyed the individual to a regional medical center in a critical state. Regrettably, medical professionals later determined the man was deceased.
The individual operating the minivan involved in the incident remained at the scene and provided information to investigators.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department crash analysts were dispatched to examine the situation. Standard procedure for cases involving severe bodily harm or fatalities requires the subject driver to undergo chemical testing. According to initial findings, substance impairment is not currently considered a contributing factor.
Early analysis suggests the pedestrian may have entered the street and positioned themselves on the roadway just prior to being impacted by the northbound minivan traveling along South Illinois Street.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office officially identified the deceased person as James Earl Palmer, who was 31 years of age.
