Fatal Harrisburg shooting death of Shayla Pierce

The fatal incident began when United States Marshals Service personnel were dispatched to the Mulberry Street area. This action was taken to execute an arrest warrant directed at Shayla Pierce. Harrisburg Police were seeking Pierce for charges related to making terroristic threats.

The underlying charges against Pierce originated from a confrontation reported on November 25th. According to reports provided by the District Attorney, Chardo, during this earlier incident near her Mulberry Street home, Pierce had allegedly pointed a firearm at another individual’s head amid a neighborhood disagreement.

Investigators for the District Attorney’s office reported that Deputy Marshal Christopher David Hill, aged 45, and York City Police Officer Kyle Pitts were involved in the situation following the incident. These law enforcement officers arrived after the November 25th incident and placed Pierce into custody. At that moment, they secured Pierce using handcuffs.

However, the situation took a violent turn. A man, later identified as Kevin Sturgis, who was 31 years old, opened fire. This attack happened as Sturgis was positioned on the second floor of the same Mulberry Street residence. He fired upon Hill and Pitts before choosing to flee the scene. Sturgis exited the front door of the house and continued his shooting at the officers.
