Fatal New Bedford car crash death of Anne Caroline Torres and the 17-year-old male from West Yarmouth

Early this morning, authorities confirmed two fatalities following a collision on Route 140 South in New Bedford. State Police responded to a 911 call just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday, reporting a one-car incident approximately two miles south of mile marker 2.1.

Emergency crews discovered a severely damaged 2019 Honda Civic in a wooded area alongside the road. Two people were thrown from the vehicle during the collision. An 18-year-old male from Dartmouth was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old female victim, later identified as Anne Caroline Torres from Dartmouth, suffered critical trauma but was confirmed deceased at the scene. Another 15-year-old, also from Dartmouth, was found nearby with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Friends and family have confirmed that Anne Caroline Torres, who died in the crash, was from Brazil. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover the costs of transporting her remains back to Ponta Grossa. Local news reports indicate that Torres and the other teenagers involved were en route home from a celebration when the driver, who was not injured, lost control of the car.

State Police are investigating the cause of the accident. The case is being handled by detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
