Columbus law enforcement has named a 21-year-old male who lost his life during a Sunday assault in the University District area.

According to police, an officer assigned non-standard patrol duties found Robert Russell, aged 21, around 2:00 a.m. on Pearl Street, situated between 14th and 15th avenues. This location is only a short distance from the Ohio State University campus.

Emergency personnel transported Russell to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Regrettably, medical staff confirmed his death shortly after arrival at the hospital.

Investigators have concluded that Russell entered a disagreement which subsequently intensified into a physical confrontation.

Initial reports indicate that Russell suffered an injury from a cutting instrument during the altercation.

Police have stated that the specific cause for the initial argument, which led to the fight, is currently unknown. They further noted that those responsible for the attack fled the scene on foot.

No individuals are currently being sought by authorities for questioning.

For several hours, investigators secured the vicinity along North High Street to collect forensic evidence.
