According to preliminary reports from the Pomona Police Department, responding officers arrived at the scene shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday. The location of the shooting victim was pinpointed to the 1000 block of West Second Street.
The county’s Medical Examiner’s office identified the deceased as Fernando Mendez. Tragically, Mr. Mendez was pronounced deceased at the exact spot where he was found.
The incident took place in the backyard area of the residence involved. Investigative leads suggest the fatal shot originated from an alleyway adjacent to the property.
