A woman from Reading was pronounced dead Tuesday morning after being impacted by multiple vehicles while crossing Route 222, as confirmed by the Northern Berks Regional Police Department.
Deputies reported the collision transpired approximately at 4:55 in the morning on November 4 in the vicinity of State Route 222 and Dries Road. Upon arrival, responding officers found Maria Zavala-Tinoco, who was determined by the Berks County Coroner’s Office to be 40 years old, deceased due to her injuries at the scene.
Investigators relayed that Zavala-Tinoco was endeavoring to cross Route 222 when she was initially hit by a large truck-trailer and subsequently struck by a second northbound vehicle. Both vehicles involved were recorded as traveling in the northern direction at the moment of the incident.
For an extended period on Tuesday morning, Route 222 was closed off as experts from the police force conducted a detailed examination of the crash site to reconstruct the events.
The Northern Berks Regional Police Department stated that the incident is still under review and they have not released any extra information at this moment.
