Shirley Yeary dies in fatal Alexandria, Campbell County car crash
A fatal motor vehicle collision occurred Monday morning, leading to the closure of AA Highway north of Alexandria. Campbell County dispatchers reported the incident to local media partner WCPO.
Fatal Alexandria, Campbell County car crash death of Shirley Yeary
Dispatchers from Campbell County informed LINK’s media partner WCPO on Monday morning that one person had died in a crash. The AA Highway remained shut down in both directions for several hours as investigators examined the scene.
Alexandria police informed WCPO that the fatal accident happened close to 5 a.m. near the intersection of KY-709 and Thelma Lee Drive. They stated that the highway was eventually reopened just before 9 a.m. the same morning.
According to police reports from Alexandria, the incident involved a semi-truck driver who allegedly failed to stop at a red light while traveling south. This driver reportedly collided with another vehicle being operated by 62-year-old Shirley Yeary from Falmouth.
Alexandria authorities confirmed that Yeary was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial truck sustained no injuries and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Investigators from the Alexandria Police Department are collaborating with the Campbell County Special Incident Response Team. They continue to examine all possible contributing factors related to the crash.
At this time, police have not indicated whether the semi-truck driver will be formally charged in connection with the incident.
