The mother of 27-year-old Marine veteran Christian Epps expressed profound shock after recognizing her son’s remains, which were discovered days after he disappeared from his residence in Detroit’s east side.
Detroit authorities have not yet identified any suspects regarding Epps’ demise, yet the victim’s mother conveyed that to her, every citizen is a suspect in this tragedy.
Christian Epps, who was well-known for his benevolence and bravery, served as a valued Marine, disc jockey, and church servant who frequently assisted the homeless population.
His mother characterized her son as steadfast and ambitious, a man who adhered to the principles of the Marine Corps.
“She stated he would protect others without hesitation,” his mother mentioned. “He pledged loyalty to the Marine code of conduct.”
Charyll indicated she last observed her son on the evening of October 29th, when he departed their dwelling on Pennsylvania Street. She mentioned no anomalies were apparent at that time.
“The day concluded normally,” she explained. “He returned from his work obligation, took some rest, had a shower. He said, ‘I’ll be back shortly.’ I asked, ‘Where are you headed, Chris?’ Those were the final words I heard from my son.”
Initially, she didn’t consider anything unusual about the situation. However, by Thursday afternoon, her son was still missing, and his telephone device was inactive. She mentioned his communication habits, and the lack of message confirmations heightened her suspicion.
“I sensed things were off,” she described. “At precisely 3 o’clock in the afternoon, I decided to proceed to the police station. Prior to that, I contacted the medical centers, the morgue, and the detention facilities – I checked the jails.”
According to Detroit law enforcement, authorities later located Epps’ vehicle parked on Fleming Street, close to the interchange of I-75 and 7 Mile Road.
“A local resident noted the vehicle was deserted,” a Fleming Street neighbor told Local 4 news. “No one was inside… therefore, we contacted police officials. I noticed missing person alerts at the fuel station and I sincerely hoped this family could locate him safely.”
Several days later, police confirmed the Epps household and the wider community’s worst forebodings. Epps was located deceased from gunshot injuries on Monday afternoon in a nearby field close to where his truck was found.
“This entire situation remains deeply disturbing,” the neighbor added. “We are sleepless. We cannot fathom such an incident occurring – it’s utterly insane. He certainly didn’t deserve this fate.”
Now, Charyll Epps, who declared she had vowed to find her son the day he went missing, has renewed that commitment: she will identify the individual responsible for his death.
“I will persist until justice is achieved,” she asserted.
