Fatal Salisbury shooting death of David Evans

The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Attorney General’s office has identified the man killed and the Salisbury police officers involved in the fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend.

Officials state 40-year-old David Evans from Salisbury was killed. The involved Salisbury Police officers were Chase Ryan, Orlando Thiess and Sean Kassouf. These officers are all assigned to the Patrol Division.

According to preliminary findings, on Sunday, November 2 around 7 p.m., officers were attempting to locate a suspect connected to a homicide that had occurred earlier that day.

The officers then spotted a man they suspected of involvement in the earlier killing in the driveway of a residence on Jefferson Street. Officials reported the man was near a car with something on its hood.

When officers gave repeated commands for him to comply, the man allegedly reached for the object on the hood. This prompted multiple officers to fire their service weapons at him.

EMS was contacted and provided medical assistance before transporting the man to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities recovered a handgun from the driveway near where the man was located.

No officers sustained any injuries during the incident.
