Fatal W55th ST shooting death of 18-year-old Kimberly Olimos
Harborview Terrace authorities confirmed Sunday that a young woman, later identified as 18-year-old Kimberly Olimos from the Bronx, was discovered deceased inside a stairwell located at 520 W56th Street around 12:45 a.m. The preliminary report suggested the death resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police secured the crime scene at the NYCHA facility shortly before midday on Sunday. The incident initially gained attention when the New York Daily News reported the news, which was subsequently verified by W42ST through an official source.
Emergency medical personnel transported Olimos to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, but pronounced her dead upon arrival. Police investigations, led by detectives at the crime scene, concluded the fatal injury was self-inflicted. Despite this determination, investigators continued to determine if the act was deliberate or accidental. The Medical Examiner’s office was proceeding with an autopsy to establish the official cause and method of death.
Eyewitnesses informed W42ST that blood was noticeable in the stairwell even late into Sunday. By afternoon, cleanup crews began power-washing and meticulously cleaning the area surrounding the Harborview Terrace complex entrance.
