Kimiko Takamiya and Rizza Lee Souther die in fatal Ewa Beach fire
The Honolulu official in charge of examining deaths has confirmed that two ladies lost their lives when flames consumed a residence in Ewa Beach.
Responders arrived at the property situated at 91-471 Fort Weaver Road around 6:35 p.m. on October 29. After putting out the blaze, authorities found human bodies.
The medical examiner’s office formally recognized the first woman as Kimiko Takamiya, who was 93 years old, on Monday.
A younger female, Rizza Lee Souther, aged 32, was transported to a specialized burn treatment facility but passed away the next day.
The reasons behind their deaths are still unknown.
Another female in her fifties was admitted to a hospital in a critical situation, and five other individuals at the scene received medical attention but decided against hospitalization.
Investigators are still figuring out what started the fire, which resulted in the complete loss of the home.
The Adult Foster Home Care Association of Hawaii stated the building was a licensed place for caring for people, with its most recent inspection happening in April.
